Cellphone camera tips
Most of these tips you are already familiar with, but there’s a few new ones:
Keep the lens clean
Fill your frame
Hold your hand over the camera to shield it from the glare of the sun[ read more Cellphone camera tips]
But more interesting is the How to take amazing mobile phone photos section with tips. There are many excellent cell phone photos so you can see what it is possible to accomplish with your mobile phone.
Also on your Window Mobile phone – if you have light settings ( auto – indoor – outdoor – lightbulb ) select the lightbulb setting for all your photos. This will get rid of that orange tone showing up in your photos.
I’ve also read that changing the registry setting from
HKEY_LOCAL-MACHINE\Software\HTC\Camera\P2\MainCamSupportCaptSize from 10 to 58 ( 0xA to 0×3A ) helps. I’m not sure what that does, I couldn’t see any difference in my pictures but try it and see. Perhaps it will benefit your photos?
Windows Mobile Themes
I put some backgrounds up here on the site you can download and use, but what if you want a full theme change? Themes exist for free all over the internet.
You download the tsk file and it MUST be installed in your \Windows\ directory. Once there go to Menu->Preferences->Today Settings and you’ll see a list of installed themes you can use.
You will find some excellent and unique themes here ( ppc geeks Themes ). Take some time to wander through the threads.
Tons of themes are here as well.
Several of the online theme sites will let you create and download themes yourself as well.
Unofficial Sprint Mogul update on the lose
* The official update is out and available
I’m not sure if Sprint leaked this or someone set it free on his/her own but the test release for Moguls update is out. I’ve installed it and am thrilled. Rev A is working as is GPS.
If you are comfortable hacking your phone, check out
PPC Geeks or Xda Developers for downloads and more information.
Remember this is not for the faint of heart, rumor has it the official release will be out in March for those of you preferring the cutting edge to the bleeding edge.
We had no problems flashing two phones. Using Virtal PC from the Mac.
GPS seems to take a while to get going and the internet seemed flaky for a while but settled down in a few hours. Most people report needing to set the GPS to Com 4 to work, Com 2 worked here. Go figure.
Google Maps and Windows Live both use the GPS just fine once you get the first lock.

HTC Touch Cube ported for other WM6 phones
So you have a Window’s Mobile phone, the iPhone interface is old news and you’re lusting after the Touch. Again the folks at PPC Geeks (thread ) have put together a cool interface for your phone. I have it working on my Mogul and it was painless to install. ( And it plays nice with your HTC Touch Today Screen ). You’ll have to experiment to see if it will work on other phones.
The files you need are in the first post of the thread above, download and install them same as you would any program. You MUST then do a soft reset for the cube to work.
There is a You Tube demo of it if you want a peek first.
I couldn’t get the customizer that comes with it to work, I had to use PHM Registry Editor. But I needed to install and learn to use a registry editor anyhow. There’s a weirdness to the registry editors. Type your changes, count to 3, turn off phone, count to 3, turn on phone count to 3, turn off phone, count to 3, soft reboot. You have to flush the cache for the changes to take place properly.
The Touch Key board can be found here
If you are looking for some of the other cool HTC Touch programs check XDA Developers (thread). Be sure to read the comments and follow the directions.

Finally some competition for Missing Sync
Eltima Sync Mate is a free sync tool for your WM phone to sync with your Mac. If you are using a Windows Mobile phone and a Mac computer up till now your only choice has been Missing Sync which is a hefty $40.
Sync Mate did a good job on the calendar and contacts and all. It wouldn’t install a file for me from my computer to my phone. All else appears to have worked. However it broke something with MissingSync. I have exported, deleted and reimported my calendar and deleted tasks and did a hard reset on the phone and MissingSync will no longer work. I’ve even hunted down and wiped all the various caches and wiped and re-installed MissingSync. So now I’m syncing on my laptop.
Missing Sync does an excellent job though this most recent version has been a bit flaky under OSX 10.5. I’m betting there’ll be a patch soon.
Bottom line is spend the money for MissingSync if the syncing is important to you, use the beta SyncMate otherwise. Just don’t play with both.
Pointui a new finger friendly pretty interface for WM phones
All software should be as pretty as Pointui.
Pointui is a user interface that overlays your Windows Mobile and makes it much easier and more pleasant to work with. It was disappointing to click on the icons and bring up the Windows software underneath. The interface was so pretty and user friendly I wanted to stay with it.
It’s still in beta, and there are bugs. I couldn’t set the weather location the first few times I tried. The agenda page doesn’t always update first time through. And I got stuck in the active tasks menu and had to do a soft reset. But It’s so nice I’m betting people will be willing to put up with the bugs while they polish off the software.
If you haven’t tried it, download it and give it a whirl.
Convert your favorite online videos for viewing on your cellphone
Movavi Online is a free online service that lets you download videos from around the net, convert them and save them to your cellphone, music player or other gadgets.
It supports all the major commonly used video formats. Videos must be less than 10 minutes in length but otherwise use seems unrestricted.
