Exporting Palm data
I’ve been using Palms for years and I don’t know how I missed this.
You can export the information in your Palm desktop to Comma separated data. This works for your date book, to do, addresses, and memos. Go to File->export data in the Palm Desktop software.
Many programs will import comma separated (CSV) data. Just look for CSV under imports in programs.
Twitter is a web 2.0 website where people post what they are doing right now. Posts come from cell phones, IM, or directly into the website from the web. Not my cup of tea, but it seems to have a large following.
MiTreo.com has released a Palm application so you can post straight to Twitter from your phone using this application.
It’s also worth noting this is the first application I’ve seen draw a wide following that was first developed in Spanish. MiTreo has several programs on the site that started in Spanish or have been ported. So native Spanish speakers should give them a visit.
Twitter saves the mobile worker

Yes you can sync your Treo with more than one computer
Just install the Palm Desktop software on each computer you wish to sync your Treo. It will take the newest information from each source so your Treo and the computers will all always be up to date.
Slow mobile speeds with Sprint’s Mobile Broadband
Some people are reporting slow speeds with Merlin cards after updates or data provisioning.
There is a flag which might not be set properly to start, or get reset on updates. You need to call Sprint have them flag the account for high speed access. They then will do an OTA ( over the air update ) and you should then be receiving DSL range speed again.
Sharing your pictures from your Treo or other smart phone
You can view a picture on your smart phone, hit the menu key and from there you can send the picture to another phone via blue tooth, beaming, or picture mail.
You can use your free flickr account to upload the photo to flickr, and you can also send it from there to your blog automatically. Go into your account – Extending Flickr.
You can open a free blogger account, sign up for mobile blogging and send the picture to your blogger blog.
Online backup solutions
Several options are now available if you wish to back up your Treo data to the internet.
Palm backup beta is available from the Palm Mobile Portal it is free for now, but I don’t know if it will remain so.
How to Sync Google Calendar with Outlook and Smart Phones Automatically ( Windows ). Or How to sync your Google Calendar with your Treo using a Mac.
GooSync has free and advanced pay service that will sync your smart phone with your Google calendar.
Yahoo has a similar service but word on the forums is syncing with Yahoo is a bit flakey and a few people reported problems with corrupted data after trying.
Midi ringtones
The Palm phones use midi ringtones rather than the more popular mp3s.
The easiest way to get a midi ringtone on your Palm is to download it directly from your web browser to your phone.
The next easiest way to get a midi ringtone on your Palm is to email it to yourself, and save the midi. Or download it directly from the internet. I know that sounds painful, but it really is the easiest way to do so.
Midis must be 64k or less to be used as a ringtone on a Treo.

Installing Java on your Palm mobile phone
* Nov 6, 2009 This is not for the Palm Pre, this only works on Treo and earlier versions.
* In another lame business move Palm will no longer be offering the JVM. Be sure to download it before Jan. 12th 2008.
** Here are the two files you will need for the basic install java.tar.gz. If you need other files they can be downloaded individually at jakestern.com. They are also available for download on the Sprint User Forums.
As more smart phones come into being, more applications are being written in Java for mobile devices. Almost all smart phones have a Java machine available to them. So you can write one application for many phones.
Many people don’t like having to install the Java machine on their phones to run these applications. However, once it is installed the applications have icons and run just like native applications.
You can download Java for Palm IBM WebSphere
*7/26/07 A new Java VM has been put out by IBM.
1) Go to the above link and download the JVM.zip or JVM.sit.
2) Expand it.
3) You will need 2 files: J9JavaVMMidp20.prc, J9JavaVMCheck_enUS.prc. Both these files are in PalmOS JVM->JVM->ARM4T. Just install these using your Palm Desktop software same as you would any other software.
( if you are not an English speaker you will need 3 files J9JavaVMMidp20.prc, J9JavaVMMidp20_xx.prc, and JavaVMCheck_xxXX.prc where xx is the code for your language )
You should re-boot your phone after installing the JVM ( Java Virtual Machine ).
Java applications are then loaded onto your phone by going to the website with the application using your web browser and following the directions.
After you install your JVM go into Prefs. You’ll see a new section at the bottom for Java. Go into there and set the memory and threads to as high has you can for best performance.
GetJAR has tons of free software you can download. Some good, some junk.
